Tech-ICT awareness in schools
Case Study: Platform for guest lectures, company visits, projects
Project lead: Jacqueline van Alten
Challenge #1
"Address the urgent need for professionals in technology & IT"
Challenge #2
"Enhance potential students' interest in or around the tech-ICT field"
Challenge #3
"Facilitate collaborations between schools and the work field"
About the project
For Platform Talent voor Technologie, an organisation set up to close the gap between secondary students' perceptions of technology careers and the industry's growing demand, Jacqueline developed a new online platform called "Jet-Net & TechNet Loket" (previously: "Gastlessen, zó geregeld"). Its purpose is to amplify Dutch primary and secundary schools' engagement with tech-ICT companies, and in so doing, raise awareness of the career diversity by experiencing real-world tech environments.
Platform
building
The platform included a matching tool that would streamline the process of arranging company visits, organising guest lessons and project assignments, and facilitating work placements. This feature ensured that schools could easily access a rich variety of options offered by tech companies eager to educate and inspire the next generation.
Matchmaking between
students & companies
Beyond matchmaking, it offered teaching tools, activities and handy tips for schools and companies to use to improve student engagement. This encouraged associated companies to deliver impactful experiences that accurately reflect the range of career opportunities in tech and ICT, even for those who wish to grow within a field outside of tech! The Jet-Net & TechNet Loket still serves as a full-fledged resource hub.
